Too Personal?

I recently quit my job after six years for many reasons. I did not get along with one of the doctors and my life there towards the end was made horrible. When I gave them my written notice of termination they pretty much kicked me out the door.

One of the main problems I had was the fact that I was too personal with some of the patients. I worked in the front desk and a lot of the patients had been coming to this company for as long as I have worked there, some even longer. I have an excellent memory and due to the Hipaa laws I could only speak to them by their first name. It only took a couple of visits before I remembered who they were.

This started my repertoire with them. Most of the patients came two sometimes three times a week. I would constantly receive compliments on how wonderful and personable I was and how I always made them feel welcome and at ease. Then the doctor started telling my office manager that I was getting to personal and that I wasn't allowed to be anymore.

I personally don't think that anyone should have the right to tell somebody to change their personality. I believe that in this day and age we have lost sight on the little things that make life worth living. Some of these people looked forward to coming in and talking with me and would tell me that I would always make them feel better no matter what kind of day they were having. I would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Maybe I am just an old soul who believes that not eveything in this world has to be impersonal.

Re: Too Personal?

Your bosses might have been thinking of some hidden agendas and businesses with their customers. Any way don't worry if you are professional enough you will get another job and your past experience will help you to set an boundary  that would not hurt neither you or your managers.

Re: Too Personal?

I am the same way and I also lost my job because of it but don't fret! God might have closed that chapter of your life because he has something better in store for you.   You leaving them is their loss!smile
